I've seen it all
Do you know what I hate?
Anime.
Anime that pulls out all the stops and shows off all of the main characters abilities in the first episode.
Wait, let me start over.
You know what really grinds my gears? YOU AMERICA.
I just decided to abuse my Netflix subscription and watch some streaming anime. My pick: Gun Sword. Sounded lame, but I gave Samurai Gun a chance before returning it without finishing the DVD. Plus, this is a part of my subscription. If it sucked, I could stop it and pick something else out. To be honest, the anime showed promise.
Main character looks like Spike Spiegel in a Tux and a D hat(AKA Red Mage Hat). He even has Vash The Stampedes voice acter to back up my next comment. I liked the comedy and the fact that it was a carbon copy of something you might get if you mixed Trigun with Scryed. Animation is decent for the super-deformed genre.
The gripe starts with the fact that you see his skill at beating up the bad guys right away. No surprises. His sword morphs and he is basically impervious to injury. hat's boring. It shows a lack of creativity on the writer's behalf and inability to formulate scenarios in which Van would have to should his ability to defuse a situation without relying heavily on his powers.
Then we end up seeing a pedestrian, yet well thought-out villain, that is undoubtedly disposed of after the first episode, use some insane ability that wasn't even hinted at before it shows it's face. Giant summonable robots, called 'Armour'. Well, inevitably, Van uses his, and beats the badguy, hands-down.
It left me unimpressed.
BUT, and I want you to imagine the best of Lewis Black impression...
but I'm gonna watch the next one, and I'm gonna hate it, and I'm gonna hate myself for watching it...and hating it.
The moral of this story is:
Kids, don't stare at a train wreck.
